The National Small College Rugby Organization is proud to announce the selections for the Penn Mutual NSCRO Women’s 7’s Select Side that will compete at the Los Angeles Invitational on Feb 28-29, 2020.

The team was selected by Bryn Chivers, who will coach the squad.

Players were selected through either the online player recommendation process, participation in the the NSCRO 15’s National Championship, or participation in the recent NSCRO Women’s  7’s All Star Championship.

This is the most experienced squad the program has fielded. It includes ten players who  have previously represented NSCRO in either 7’s or 15’s. They are joined by newcomers Anika Blackman of Albright College and Amanda Wisbeck of Endicott College.

With the demise of the CRC this will be the only event for the 7’s team this year and the emphasis will then shift to the Women’s 15’s Select Side that will compete in early summer.

The Penn Mutual NSCRO programs are open to all NSCRO Players. Coaches can complete the Player Recommendation Form to refer players at anytime for either the 7’s or 15’s programs.

After several years of building this program up from nothing, Chivers said he's in a good place now.

"We have good pathways now," he said. "We have coaches who are recommending players through the online recommendation process, and and we have events where we see players throughout the year."

Chivers said the value of the team goes way beyond just the players on the squad.

LA Invitational A Massive Festival: Details

"It's not about the 12 here. It's about the 144 or so women who went to Florida to play in the All Star Championship," Chivers said. "And then it's about the several hundred players who tried out for those teams. They all got something out of it and took it back to their college teams. When we started we were working with six teams. Now we tough as many as 70."

The experience of this team, said Chivers, allows the coaching staff to move players around because they know more about ther players' styles, skills, and abilities.

The NSCRO team will play in the Women's College bracket at the LAI along with the likes of Lindenwood University, Saint Mary's University of Guelph, Notre Dame College, and University of Regina.
