Men's DII College Playoff Brackets Set

USA Rugby's Men's DII College bracket is set, with 21 teams getting set to kick it off in the next two weekends.

Eleven teams have a spot in the Round of 16, which will be played in Columbia, Mo. and Greenville, SC on November 23-24.

But ten teams will be playing off a week earlier to get a spot in those playoffs.

First Round

Play-ins November 16 or 17, played at home field of one of the teams:

UW-Whitewater at Thomas More

The Best DII College Team Not Ranked: Thomas More

Southeastern Louisiana at Memphis

Thomas More is the champion of the MCRC, which is a much-changed conference and More is new to DII. Whitewater, being the Great Midwest runner-up, has not earned a place in the final 16 ... yet. Memphis is the SCRC champion, and the SCRC is new as a DII conference (it's the Tier 2 of the SCRC DIAA conference), and SE La is the Deep South champion, and the Deep South hasn't progressed far in the playoffs so they need to play-in.

Loyola-Chicago vs Middle-Tennessee State (played at Thomas More College)

MTSU is the runner-up in the SCRC which, as we said, is a new DII conference. Why two teams from the SCRC? MTSU and Memphis have been very close, so excluding the runner-up isnt especially necessary. Great Midwest is a historically strong conference, and Loyola was very close to UW-Whitewater.

Lehigh vs North Carolina (played at Richmond, Va.)

Lehigh is the MARC runner-up, and the MARC has been a strong conference in the playoffs historically. UNC is the runner-up in the Southern, also a strong conference.

UMass-Lowell at Boston University

Two very good teams that just fell short in conferences (Rugby Northeast, NEWCRC) that produce playoff-successful competitors.

Columbia, Mo. Bracket

Round of 16 November 23-24

Illinois State vs MSU Moorhead

Montana State vs Missouri S&T

More DII College Conference Champs Finalized

Illinois State won the Great Midwest and Moorhead won the Northern Lights. Montana State won a close final in the Rocky Mountain, and S&T won the Gateway.

The winners of the two above games play each other on November 24 in the quarterfinals.

Greenville, SC Bracket

Vermont vs Thomas More or UW-Whitewater

Villanova vs Memphis or SE Louisiana

Vermont is the NEWCRC champion, and Villanova is the MARC champion. Given that the MARC always does well in the playoffs, Villanova will get what is considered the easier matchup in this round.

The winners of the two above games play each other on November 24 in the quarterfinals.

Norwich vs Loyola or MTSU

William Paterson vs Furman

WPU won the Tri-State and Furman is the Southern champ and has made it to multiple playoffs, and gone deep into them. The same can be said of Norwich, the Rugby Northeast champ, which is why the Cadets play the winner of two runners-up.

The winners of the two above games play each other on November 24 in the quarterfinals.

Queens University Charlotte vs Lehigh or UNC

Grand Valley vs UMass-Lowell or Boston University

Queens has rolled through the Cardinals, and with that conference having produced last year's champion (NC State) that's why they face two runners-up. GVSU has been excellent this year, winning the Grwat Lakes over Bethel, but the Round of 16 game here might be the most competitive, as any of the teams potentially involved could win.

The winners of the two above games play each other on November 24 in the quarterfinals.
