DIA Latest

This is what Davenport was used to playing in. They struggled with the heat, and will have to visit Life in Georgia next week. Steve Zomberg photo.

We're down to nine teams (not eight), in the DIA playoffs.

Lindenwood put an injury-slammed Wheeling Jesuit to the sword Saturday, beating the Cardinals 89-5. Michael Baska scored three and set up at least two more. Deion Mikesell scored two, and fullback Lungi Tshuma scored 32 points on nine conversions, three penalty goals, and a try. Ashley Harrop also scored twice for the Lions.

Lindenwood now travels to Bloomington, Ind. to face Big Ten champs Indiana next week.

Arizona put in a nice performance despite missing some players to beat LSU 30-10. The full report is here. Arizona travels to Utah next week.

Davenport defeated San Diego State 43-31 in Southern California. Davenport scored three quick tries and seemed in control. However, San Diego State made a late charge to make the gap smaller.

"We did a decent job of attacking the wide channels, which we though we could have success with based on the film we had seen," said Davenport Head Coach James Wood. "Most of our points were scored there."

However, said Wood, the heat wilted the Panthers somewhat in the final 20 minutes - understandable since Davenport has been playing games in snow the last few weeks.

With the win, Davenport will travel to their old rivals, Life University, next week.

And so to the fourth game ... and the snow called off Cal Poly at Air Force. This has caused a huge complication as this game has to be played this week. There is talk afoot already of the game being played during the week, and perhaps the winner v St. Mary's being played on Sunday. Stay tuned.

So the quarterfinals are:

Davenport at Life

Arizona at Utah

Cal Poly or Air Force at St. Mary's

Lindenwood at Indiana
