ARP Latest: South Kicks Off, Close Games Up North
White Plains remains unbeaten in the ARP North, while the ARP South finally got underway this past weekend.
Eric Naposki scored 13 points with four conversions and a try to help pace White Plains to a 33-27 over NYAC. It was the third straight close loss for NYAC. Filimoni Waqainabete, Ray Weiner, Sebastiano Villani, and
Ratu Napolioni Dawai all scored tries for White Plains.
Three front-rowers in Michael Mahon, Aiden Kerr, and Kirkland Hamilton scored tries for the AC, while fullback Valentin Balande added one, as well. Scrumhalf Erwan Nicolas added seven points from the boot. WHite PLains lock Jale Railala did much of the grunt work and hard carrying and he was named player of the game.
Mystic River looked impressive with a 47-29 defeat of Old Blue to move to 2-0. Flyhalf Matthew Anticev's accuracy off the tee helped Mystic get full value for six out of their seven tries. Loose forward Teaimoni Tongauiha scored in the opening minute and speedy winger Devin Rivert raced in a few minutes later, quickly staking Mystic River to a 14-0 lead. Old Blue got one back through wing Cam Roberts, but Mystic responded almost immediately. Hooker Connor Robinson's try, with Anticev adding the extras, made it 21-5.
Tries by Junior Gafa and James Beattie made it 28-12. Keelin Coyle had converted Beattie's try and he slotted a penalty at the break to make it 28-15 at halftime, with Old Blue still in with a chance to claw back. And in fact Old Blue weren't really dismissed until the final 15 munites. Mystic center Killian Coghlan's unconverted try made it 33-15 but Old Blue answered back through Ryo Higashida and Luke Watts, with Coyle convertin, and suddenly we had a one-score game at 33-29.
Two late tries, with Rivet getting his second and No. 8 Cameron Davidowicz getting his first sealed the deal for the Bostoners.
And in the South the first game of that division kicked off with Atlanta pulling away from Miami 59-22. Atlanta's ability to go wide was evidences by wing Giovani Douyon's five tries and fullback Chris Bagby's three. Wing Anterrious Branch made it nine tries out of nine for the outside backs. Shea O'Hanlon and Tim Mmasi added the extras.
No. 8 Manual Krause, prop Alex Tucci, and wing Blake Pereda accounted for Miami's three tries, with flyhalf Matthew Mairowitz adding seven from the kicking tee.
