GRR: National Teams
The USA Junior Women's Sevens team is all set to compete at the 2025 Junior Pan American Games this week in Asunción, Paraguay.
The USA arrives in Asunción today, August 12, and will play August 16 is in a pool with Paraguay, Mexico, and Brazil. The other pool has Canada, Jamaica, Argentina, and Colombia, and knockout games will be August 17.
In front of over 11,000 in Ottawa Canada shook off an iffy opening 35 minutes to run away with a 42-10 victory over the USA women in the Eagles’ final test match before the 2025 Rugby World Cup.
USA vs Canada tonight in Ottawa is an important Rugby World Cup buildup game for both teams, but there’s more to it than that.
These two teams have a long and interesting rivalry. Years ago it was heavily in the USA’s favor, but it has not been that way the last 20 years, with Canada shooting past the USA to lead the series 28-19.
After defeating Fiji in a too-close-for-comfort test match July 19, the USA played against the same Fijian team in a scrimmage on the campus of Mount St. Mary's University in front of a boisterous crowd that responded at short notice.
That scrimmage ended with a USA win once more, and at 48-34 it was, once again, too close for comfort.
The USA and Canada women's national teams have named their squads to face each other at 7PM ET on Friday, July 26 at TD Place in Ottawa.
