GRR: National Teams
The Eagles’ 35-35 tie with an Argentina XV in a non-cap game in the Americas Rugby Championship was a game full of qualifiers.
It was an imperfect performance, to be sure, but considering the team had only had a week together under a new coaching staff, it could have been much worse.
The USA U20s are in camp now and it’s a hugely diverse group of players that interim Head Coach JD Stephenson has to mold into a cohesive unit.
What he has to help him is the experience of many of these players - some have been with the U20s before, and others have been on trips with the HS All Americans or Eagle Impact Rugby Academy.
The USA v Argentina Americas Rugby Championship game was not a full test match.
Argentina is being billed as an Argentina XV, and certainly most of their players were very young and were not experienced internationals. The rest of the games in the ARC will be full test matches, but no player playing for or against the Argentina entry will get a cap.
The Eagles 7s team was disappointing Sunday in Sydney, losing two games thanks to poor tackling and a loss of composure.
In a result that was at once a pleasant surprise and, in the end, achingly frustrating, the USA tied Argentina 35-35 in the Americas Rugby Championship opening weekend.
