BOULDER, Colo. – USA Rugby officially announced Wednesday a bid has been submitted to World Rugby to host Rugby World Cup Sevens, to be held in 2018.

USA Rugby, in conjunction with the San Francisco Giants, San Jose Earthquakes, and the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee, plans for the proposed three-day tournament to be held in the San Francisco area.

USA players overseas have been very active this December. In European Cup and domestic UK action, most of the players on contract have seen significant playing time. Samu Manoa may not have started for Northampton against Treviso in the European Champions Cup, but when he came on he scored three tries, so that was a productive day.

The USA Men’s 7s team leave Port Elizabeth, South Africa with a well-earned Plate victory and a bump up to 9th in World Rugby HSBC Sevens World Series Standings. The USA lost 28-7 to New Zealand in the Cup Quarterfinals.

USA 7s wing Perry Baker had an eventful weekend at the Nelson Mandela Bay 7s, as he scored the winning try against Fiji in the Plate Final, capping off a tournament that started with him being tackled by a fan. Baker chased down a long kick from Madison Hughes in the Plate Final with the score tired 14-14

The USA Men’s 7s team is into the Cup Quarterfinals in the Nelson Mandela Bay 7s in Port Elizabeth, South Africa after two impressive victories to cap off Day One. After losing 26-0 to South Africa in their opener, the Eagles shocked Wales 38-12 and then defeated a fairly pedestrian Kenyan side 33-5.
