More state finals are on the slate for this weekend.
Xaverian Brothers got by Belmont HS 38-17 to book their spot in the Massachusetts IAA D1 final. These two teams had met back in early April, a game that ended in a 17-17 tie. In the semifinal Luke Bell scored two tries while Christopher Dalton, William Benting, Joseph Karbelis, and Ben Kramer all touched down as well.
It’s all pretty close at the top of Rugby Connecticut as both teams that made the final had to battle through very tight games to go it.
Fairfield Prep edged Trumbull 34-32 in one semifinal.
Trumbull ran out to a 20-7 first-half lead. Fairfield Prep’s ill discipline and Trumbull’s powerful running put Fairfield back on their heels.
Notre Dame de la Salette followed up on their 3rd-place finish at the Boys HS National Championships with wild win over the Marist Redhawks to take the Illinois School-team State Championship.
The San Diego Legion will be holding a University Week surrounding its June 7 match against Old Glory DC, which includes three different events for youth athletes wanting to play the game at the next level.
Marquette HS took the Boys HS Wisconsin final this past weekend, edging a tenacious Pulaski Roos side 21-17.
The Hilltoppers scored two times before 10 minutes were up and seemed to be, maybe, in control. But the Pulaski Roos came right back and Marquette Head Coach Colin Dillon said they caught his team unawares.
