SAN JOSE, Calif. – Ranked 1st in the DIAA Pacific Western Rugby Conference, Chico State University heads down to play #2 Stanford University at Steuber Stadium in Palo Alto Saturday in a meeting of undefeated teams.
This game will likely decide who finishes in 1st in the conference.
After battling through four lead changes and entering halftime down three points, California outscored British Columbia by 12 points in the second half to win, 39-36, Saturday on Witter Rugby Field.
The Naval Academy handed UMW their first 15’s loss since October 2016 today with a late surge between the 70th minute and the end of the game. The match officials and both coaches, UMW’s Min Chae and Navy’s Gavin Hickie all commented on what a well-played match it was.
University of South Carolina won the opening Chesapeake Conference 7s tournament of the season, beating James Madison 14-7 in the final.
Played in snowy conditions at Towson University, the tournament included six teams from the Chesapeake and several others from outside the conference (including USC).
Arkansas State scored two tries in the second half to come from behind and defeat Clemson University 14-10 Saturday afternoon in the Mid-South Conference.
It was a tight game throughout, and was a tough oss for the Tigers, who fielded ten players under the age of 20.
