GRR: College Men
Saint Mary’s put Grand Canyon to the sword Saturday in Phoenix, defeating the ‘Lopes 79-8 on the first day of collegiate competition in the New Year.
GCU started on the front foot and got an early penalty goal to lead 3-0. But Saint Mary’s played their habitual fast ball-movement game, bolstered by a powerful scrum, and answered in short order.
In this weekend’s installment of “be careful what you wish for” Saint Mary’s makes the trip to Phoenix to play Grand Canyon University in the first weekend of January.
NCR’s men’s collegiate all-star tournament kicks off Saturday with eight teams in competition in the Austin, Texas area.
The Northeast Independents are looking to make it a three-peat as they once again enter more than one team. The college rugby-dense region has a lot of depth and has come out on both in 2022 and 2023 (although they were called New England in the first year).
We combine the deep three because we can.
And also because many of these players play similar roles and switch around from wing to fullback. We so have some players who might be centers also, notably Dominic Holmes who played all over but was MVP of the D2 final as a fullback so he goes in here.
Ultimately there is a ton of talent and there has been throughout the list.
Well we had a bit of a break from posting our top players of the fall in Men's D2 rugby — that New Year comes fast!
Two more to go. Here's center and later on today we'll post wing/fullback.
Thanks to all who helped us with this and we did have a few amendments for the other lists. Check those out here:
