GRR: Rugby Texas
Defending Rugby Ohio state champs St. Ignatius defeated St. Thomas of Houston, Texas 66-15 Monday in the first game of the Ohio team’s five-day, four-game tour of the Lone Star State.
Cy-Fair defeated Kingwood 43-19 this past weekend in Texas HS play.
Kingwood has been slammed with injuries, including HS All American Dillon Shotwell, and was able to field only 18 for the game on Friday night. Meanwhile, Cy-Fair is starting to improve play, with new center Quinterlo Baker impressing observers with his speed and evasiveness.
Lake Travis defeated Rock Rugby 24-14 Thursday night in the Rugby Texas Boys HS league.
The game was of note because both teams have lost close ones to league-leaders Westlake, and only the top two from the North/Central make the Cup semis.
Ten games into the Texas girls HS season, Kingwood has taken 291 points without giving up any. Every player on the 1st team, subs included, has scored. Five fresh players have been trained to take the places of the five graduated starting seniors, and Kingwood is realizing the benefits.
The Rugby Texas North/Central Conference may well come down to this week as Lake Travis and Rocky Rugby meet up Thursday to basically decide who will finish 2nd.
Westlake has already beaten both of these teams, albeit by razor-thin scores of 12-7 and 15-12.
