GRR: Rugby Oregon
Twenty-two boys HS teams will be in action in Oregon this weekend, with the Varsity and Club contests well underway.
It was a quiet weekend in Rugby Oregon, but Union HS did get on the field, putting, as they usually do, two squad in competition.
The Union 2nd side tied Battle Ground 10-10, which was a very good result for the Union 2nds. The halfback combo of Parker Johnson and Austin Lewis played well against an experienced and physical Battle Ground team.
It's a busy weekend around the country in Boys HS rugby, as some leagues are getting started, and others heading into playoff-decision time; here's a look:
The Union Titans, defending Oregon single-school champions, took a short trip to California to kick off their season.
The Titans played a series of shortened matches with some DI teams from Northern California, defeating the Cougars 19-5 and Sierra 35-12 on Saturday. On Sunday, the Titans defeated the Sac Eagles 31-19 and the Cougars 36-5.
The Grackles were the favorites heading into the Rugby Oregon girls high school 7s championship last weekend, but the reigning fall and summer 7s champion had played some close games during its undefeated season. To boot, the Grackles’ best player – Sui A’au – was absent for an official visit tot Lindenwood University.
