GRR: Rugby Oregon
The Pacific Northwest has returned to select-side competition with the newly-named Sasquatch Invitational.
Following on from the old Great Northwest Challenge, which was held for over 15 years Pre-COVID, this tournament offers rep teams from western states the opportunity to compete and improve their skills against other state or regional rep sides.
Midweek games give us a chance to look at some of the other HS action around the country and what's coming up.
Playoffs loom in several states.
Fairfield Prep over Loudoun in Gonzaga Classic Varsity Bracket
The top two teams in Oregon's girls HS league face off Saturday with plenty on the line.
Both the Valley Panthers and East County Grackles are 4-0 and both have generally controlled their games this season. Both defenses have been exceptional. East County has given up only 22 points, of which 17 were in one game, a 34-17 victory over Salem.
Rugby Oregon kicked off its fall 7s this past weekend with brackets for both boys and girls.
In the girls competition, the bracket was well-attended and the games were competitive throughout. The opener between Newberg and Reynolds went to the Newberg Lady Tigers, but it wasn't a walkover as Reynolds held Newberg to just two tries in a 10-5 results.
The Valley Rams won the Rugby Oregon Boys HS 7s with two wins in the championship tournament to cap off an 11-0 season.
The Rams went into the weekend 9-0 but still had to win out in the final event at Glenhaven Park in Portland. And with some lineup changes on some teams they could easily have slipped up.
