GRR: Rugby Indiana
Four girls HS teams played a round robin of shortened matches this past weekend at Penn HS in Indiana.
The host team did very well, winning all three games, while Illinois-based Plainfield and Indiana-based Warsaw both lost to Penn, tied each other, and defeated Hamilton, who finished 0-3.
Penn HS hosted a six-team boys tournament this weekend for high school rugby players who wanted to get some fall rugby in.
Penn, Penn B, Bishop Dwenger, Carroll, St. Ignatius out of Ohio, and Warsaw participated.
Penn HS went 3-0, beating Carroll, St. Ignatius, and Dwenger, scoring 92 points and allowing 17. The games were 30 minutes long (15-minute halves).
Rugby Indiana has named its all-state selections for the Boys Super League, Boys DI, and Boys DII.
In a Boys all-star season where the JV teams seem to have as much importance as the Varsity teams, Indiana is one of those that stuck out.
While Utah’s JV team dominated the competition in the Rocky Mountain Classic, Indiana’s was just as impressive, producing shutout after shutout, going 4-0, and really only being usher by Virginia, a team they beat in the final 37-14.
North Central won its 10th Indiana girls high school state championship, marking the team’s 7th consecutive title. But despite the 32-17 decision over Penn, which had finished third at the Midwest Championship, the game was not a one-sided affair.
The Panthers were tested early on and found themselves on the losing end of a 10-0 scoreline.
