(WASHINGTON, DC, Aug. 6, 2023) Premier Rugby Sevens (PR7s) crowned its 2023 Champions tonight at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. Led by two-time U.S. Olympian Alev Kelter, the women’s Northern Loonies defeated the New York Locals in the Championship Final, 21-10. On the men’s side, U.S. Olympian Matai Leuta led the SoCal Rhinos x Loggerheads over the Pittsburgh Steeltoes, 10-5.

New York City (PR 7s Release)—Coming off its first multi-city season in 2022, Premier Rugby Sevens (PR7s) will host Open Trials in eight markets across North America starting in January 2023.

The Loggerheads won the Men’s Premier Rugby Sevens Series over the weekend, while the Headliners Women not only won their championship but led the Headliners to the united (men’s and women’s) titles as well.

The Premier Rugby Sevens (PR 7s) is a professional 7s league that kicked off with a single tournament last year.

The PR 7s kicks off its three-tournament series this coming weekend with the stop in San Jose, followed by Washington DC a week later, and Austin, Texas on July 30.

This concept has already produced a couple of players who have received time in the USA 7s system, and with the series going strong for women as well as men its equal-opportunity approach has been received well.
