GRR: Northern California
It's a busy weekend around the country in Boys HS rugby, as some leagues are getting started, and others heading into playoff-decision time; here's a look:
There's plenty at stake this weekend in Northern California's Boys DI HS league as a well-regarded SFGG team takes on always-dangerous Peninsula Green.
Peninsula Green comes into the game after beating Pleasanton - a very solid Pleasanton - 45-12.
The Northern California DII Boys HS league is not for the faint of heart, and has produced some impressive athletes and rugby players at higher levels in the past.
This year, five teams have emerged as the major contenders - De La Salle in the Bay Division, Bullard and Roosevelt in the Central, Berkeley in the Redwood, and Kennedy in Sacramento.
(Story by Brad Zigler) - Two Redwood Empire forwards, and products of the Elsie Allen Lobos youth program, are about to make history as members of the nation’s first professional rugby league.
There are a lot of expectations every time the Jesuit of Sacramento rugby team takes the field, and leading a team with those expectations isn't easy.
