GRR: NCR D1
We have quite a bit to say about D1A and NCR D1 games, plus quite a bit to say about DIAA games, so this week we're splitting DIAA off into its own preview article.
It's been interesting to see how teams and players step up in cross-divisional games and more challenging games.
How a player steps into the fray when playing a team that is heavily favored or a big challenge is how we, over time, find special competitors. We do have some standouts in blowout games, but it's the close games we notice more.
Well you see what happens when you've got a busy week.
We did our rankings for NCR D1 last week and then ... forgot to publish them. So all of the excitement of St. Bonaventure becoming #1 never materialized. Oh well. This week? Bonnies consolidates their place, having now beaten Army and Penn State. Notre Dame College, having tied Army, also anchors themselves at #4.
It remains tight in the Big Rivers as we saw three competitive games in this NCR D1 conference.
Marian were pipped 26-21 by Principia to move the Thunder Chickens to 2-0 in the conference and dropping the Knights to 1-1.
Wheeling defeated Thomas More 36-22 to open their conference account.
We're capping off September and we're pretty much done with warmups and testing ourselves.
Now we're in the meat of the fall season.
