Men DII College News
The University of Minnesota-Duluth won the Fool's Fest Men's DII college bracket at Winona State in Minnesota.
The win qualifies the Fighting Penguins for a spot in the USA Rugby's DII 7s championships. UW-Eau Claire finished 2nd, and Winona 3rd.
Full order of finish:
1. Duluth 2. Eau Claire 3. Winona 4. Platteville 5. Stout 6. St. Thomas 7. UNI 8. Mankato.
The Beat of the East, in its 33rd year, has three brackets of men’s college teams with DI, DII, and DIII teams totaling more than 40.
Division I
Heading up the DI bracket is Boston College, ranked #38 among all DI college teams by Goff Rugby Report. UConn, Albany, UMass, Rhode Island, and Kings Point rounds out a highly-competitive bracket.
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater got some measure of revenge Saturday, and in doing so secured a berth in USA Rugby’s Men’s DII College 7s Championships in Cary, NC in May.
Lindenwood-Belleville hosts a 7s tournament this weekend, and it’s yet another first for a program that didn’t exist a year ago.
L-B made the national DII 15s playoffs, and now is looking at a berth at USA Rugby’s 7s DII nationals. They have an excellent shot, as Head Coach Pat Clifton has worked hard to get his Lynx game time, going to Florida, Tennessee, and Las Vegas to find it.
