Men DII College News

10.13.2019 - Alex Goff

Grand Valley State defeated Calvin College 53-32 to move to 4-0 in the Great Lakes men's DII college conference.

Flyhalf Nick Roberts did a nice job at running the GVSU attack, while flanker Tarzan Iam, playing in his first game, was a wild man chasing balcarriers down.

At No. 8, Austin Dewey worked the breakdowns and tackles nicely.

We're a little bit late posting this so we'll combine it as a scores page and a picks page.

The only results we had prior to posting was Central Michigan over Saginaw Valley State, and Lowell over Providence, but we had CMU and Lowell picked for those—honest. Big game in the South with Citadel vs UNC, and also in the Tri-State with Kings Point against Marist.

Here's our list of players who made a significant impact in Men's DII college rugby last weekend.

Loyola-Chicago’s defeat of Northern Iowa has the Great Midwest sitting up and taking notice.

Now at 2-1, Loyola is tied with Northern Iowa at 3-1 and in a solid position to make a go in the Great Midwest playoffs.

Now, Loyola’s 27-22 loss to Illinois State on September 7 looms large as an indication that Loyola could be very serious.

Well guess what, we've got College DII rankings right here.

It's been a few weeks since you saw any, so don't be surprised that you will see some major changes.

Such as ...Furman, Vermont, and especially Kings Point move up, especially Kings Point.

The US Merchant Marine Academy is now clear atop the Tri-State Conference after beating William Paterson 50-5 Saturday.

The result was an impressive one as WPU is certainly one of the major competitors in the Tri-State Men's DII conference, and to have Kings Point beat them by 45 points is a bit of a head-turner.

Men's DII College Game This Weekend

10.03.2019 - Alex Goff

Playoff ramifications are already on some teams’ minds as we enter the meat of the Men’s DII college season.

Leagues have about 50 games going on this week, about 100 teams in action, and a huge percentage of these teams are thinking they are in a position to make a conference playoff, or better.

But some matchups are more equal than others. Here's a look at some:

Is it a three-team race in the NEWCRC?

Maybe.

We’re two weeks into the New England-Wide Conference, and three teams in the Tier 1 are undefeated. Hope is not lost for the rest of the teams, but they’ll need a little bit of help.

The Rugby Northeast conference already has its key games, and in fact we’re not that far from playoff time.

The Rocky Mountains were hit with some early snow this week and even on the rugby fields something strange was in the air.

Strangest of all perhaps was Colorado Mesa’s startling 48-29 defeat of previously 2-0 Western Colorado.

Western has been a playoff team before, and Mesa was three weeks removed from a 110-0 humbling at the hands of Northern Colorado.
