In a monumental clash at Westwick Field in Lawrence, Kansas, Saint Martin’s Academy Kingfishers defeated the Saints of St. Thomas Aquinas 50-0 in the Kansas State Rugby Championship final, clinching their third consecutive state title.
In a somewhat bizarre final, St. Martin's Kingfishers defeated St. Thomas Aquinas 26-19 to win the Kansas State championships.
This was the third time these two teams had met this season; the first game was a fairly convincing win for Aquinas; the second was a close victory for STA. But this third time the game went to Kingfishers.
St. Thomas Aquinas defeated St. Martin's Kingfishers in an almighty all-Kansas midweek clash Wednesday night.
Over and above the game, we now have a bona-fide rivalry. Kingfishers has been building and in fact beat Aquinas for the Kansas state championship last year. Of course, that's just one year, and if you want a rivalry, you need staying power.
