Ray Lehner was the first in a long line of players who played for Jesuit of Sacramento, Cal, and the USA.
A direct and honest rugby player and person, Lou Stanfill was a bruising lock, flanker, and No. 8 who played over 50 times for the USA.
Jesuit of Sacramento defeated SCIRF champion St. Augustine 22-5 in a crossover clash Saturday.
The game was played at Cal Maritime, and was an excellent example of the quality of rugby top schools are capable of. The Saints had trouble breaking through a staunch Jesuit defense, but play a smart, structured game throughout.
This weekend features a top ten clash between Jesuit and Saint Augustine from San Diego. Both teams will meet in the bay area and play at Cal Maritime. Following the game the teams will travel to Cal to watch the Cal Invitational.
De La Salle won the single-school cup competition in Northern California, upsetting Jesuit of Sacramento 19-10 to win it.
This was the first time ever that De La Salle has beaten Jesuit in rugby.
Jesuit played well and were quick to the breakdowns and played with skill, but De La Salle was very physical and stuck to their defensive structure nicely.
