Top-ranked DII team IUP defeated in-conference rival Miami of Ohio in fairly convincing fashion Friday night, taking the game 54-17.
IUP's vaunted defense was a little humbled early on as some shifty running and quick ball put Miami over for a converted try before seven minutes were up.
As we mentioned last week, the men’s D2 college playoff picture is a lot more open to student-supported club teams this year.
Perhaps the least surprising win at the CRCs was IUP.
Bringing back several players that ran through to the D2 championship in 2022, the Hawks were nicely-poised to do it again in 2023.
Speed, so the saying goes, kills, and certainly it was deadly on Sunday.
Principia’s speed isn’t their only attribute, but it helps, a lot, and Sunday at Aveva Stadium the Thunder Chickens sped their way to NCR’s National D2 Championship, defeating IUP 47-16 in the process.
In two completely different games IUP and Principia won their Men’s D2 national semifinal to book places in Sunday’s championship game.
