GRR: Eagle Women

12.05.2022 - Alex Goff

The USA Women's 7s team took third in Dubai and the result, overall, puts them in a nice position to challenge for an automatic berth in the 2024 Olympics.

Finishing top four in the seven-event will do the job. The questions, though, are ... are the Eagles improving, and are they objectively one of the top four teams in the world?

The USA Women's 7s team going to the Dubai is largely the same lineup that played at the RWC 7s, but there are some important changes.

Young standouts Sam Sullivan and Spiff Sedrick are in the squad and the hope is that they will see more game time as both continue to make an impact when they take the field.

An Opinion Column by Alex Goff—This is actually more of a preview; I will have more to say on the USA's failure to qualify for Rugby World Cup 2023 in a bit.

The USA Women's 15s team lost 32-11 to Canada in the Women's Rugby World Cup quarterfinals and end their tournament tied for 5th with a 1-3 record.

Once again points were hard to come by. The Eagles recycled well and worked hard, but their offensive plan did not create line breaks the way other teams, including Canada, were able to do.

10.27.2022 - GRR Staff

USA coach Rob Cain has named his team for the Rugby World Cup 2021 quarterfinal against Canada at Waitakere Stadium on 30 October (11:30PM ET October 29 for fans in the USA).
