GRR: Eagle Men

12.11.2014 - Alex Goff
The USA Men’s 7s team gets to rebound from a frustrating Dubai 7s in South Africa and should have some of their banged up players back available to play. Zach Test was held out of the Day Two games in Dubai thanks to an ankle injury. Perry Baker saw little time on Day Two after a shoulder stinger.

The USA Men’s National Team will not have to dance around too many pro player availabilities in 2015 as they look ahead to the Rugby World Cup. The Eagles’ season looks to include five or six test matches, plus as many as three non-test games before they arrive in England for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

Julien Saubade’s two second-half tries were the difference in the Emirates Dubai Rugby Sevens Bowl Semifinal Saturday as France ended the Men’s Eagles Sevens’ weekend with a 24-15 win. The Eagles gain five points from the second leg of the 2014-15 World Rugby HSBC Sevens World Series.

The USA is in the Bowl semis after somehow beating Japan 14-12 in the Bowl Quarterfinals on Day Two of the Dubai 7s. The Eagles fell behind 12-0 to Japan thanks to some penalties and turnovers - the second Japan try came with Danny Barrett in the sin-bin. But the Eagles started to come back in the second half.

The USA Men’s 7s team can look at one or two very specific things that undercut their Day One in Dubai. Not least of these was a tough pool - none of the teams in their pool were pushovers.
