Men’s Division 1AA (D1AA) represents a highly competitive tier of collegiate rugby in the United States, featuring programs governed by both National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) and the College Rugby Association of America (CRAA). It serves as a bridge between elite Division I play and developing Division II or Small College levels, offering strong regional competition and a pathway to national championships under each organization’s structure. While NCR and CRAA operate independently, both use the D1AA designation for schools with established programs that may not have the depth or resources of top-tier D1A teams.
DI College Games This Weekend - Playoffs Continue
It's all about playoff time this week.
All of the games we list are between ranked teams. We've got Varsity Cup semis, the DIAA quarters, and the DIA quarters, as well. Note, of course, that Air Force plays Cal Poly in the DIA first round game that was snowed out last week. The quarterfinal against St. Mary's will be played Sunday.
Sac State a Surprise? Not to Them
Upset? What upset?
Sacramento State might have been the #2 team out if the Pacific Western Conference, and they might have been playing the #1 team out of the Gold Coast, but the Sacramento State players and coaches did not think it was an upset to beat the 49ers and make the DIAA quarterfinals. Not by a long shot.
Forwards Step Up for AIC
After most of the winter/spring being about 7s, American International College rolls into the DIAA quarterfinals at Bowling Green University hot on the trail of a 15s championship.
This comes after an impressive 55-35 win for AIC over Delaware in the 1st round of the playoffs, a game that was difficult to prepare for.

For most of the teams in DI-level rugby, the spring now means thinking about 7s and finals and rehashing the season.
For some, though, some sort of championships still beckons, and the games they are playing mean plenty - this is where a team has to be playing its best, and we assign plenty of importance to those games.
