Gaels Beat Life in Wild Finish
In a thrilling and wild game at Kennesaw State University, the St. Mary’s Gaels defeated Life University 30-24 in the Men’s DIA College final Saturday.
The game was back and forth all day, and ended with Life right on the St. Mary’s tryline, but the Gaels managed to escape and win it.
Halfback Not All-American
Thought for the day - of the four teams that made the top men's college finals (Varsity Cup and DIA), there are eight starters in the halfback combo - four scrumhalves and four flyhalves; of those, only two were born in the USA.
Life's #9 and #10 were both born in Northern Ireland.
Cal's halfbacks are from Hong Kong.
Two Underdogs in Life v St. Mary's Part III
Saturday there’s the little matter of a DIA championship to be figured out.
For the third year in a row, Life University plays St. Mary’s, and perhaps the first hope is that it will be an entertaining, open game. The last two have been marked by aggressive defense, and the idea that the team that makes the fewest mistakes will win.
Audsley Sparks Gaels to Final
St. Mary’s will meet Life University once again in the USA Rugby DIA final as the Gaels defeated a determined and plucky Davenport University 48-32 Saturday in Moraga, Calif.
St. Mary’s dominated in the first half, but had to weather a furious Davenport surge in the second half.
Life Powers Past Lindenwood
Life University laid down an impressive marker in winning their DIA semifinal over Lindenwood University 43-14.
In a very physical and sometimes chippy game, Life dominated field position and scoring in the first half. The Lions roared back in the second half to come within two tries, but Life put the dagger in late to win it.
