GRR: De La Salle

03.02.2024 - Alex Goff

Here’s a quick look at some of the action featuring top school teams around the nation.

De La Salle

In pretty nasty weather De La Salle defeated Los Alamitos to win the All-California school final Saturday. Saint Mary’s College hosted the match despite the rain and in the game De La Salle unleashed an impressive defensive showing.

Granite Bay and Danville are both unbeaten in Northern California league play and will be the top two going into the playoffs.

The Marin Highlanders pulled off a big result over the weekend, holding well-regarded single-school team De La Salle to a 10-10 tie.

Needless to say, although we're still saying it, it was a defensive battle.

And yes, certainly, DLS has some injuries and unavailabilities, but they expected to beat Marin ... which may have been the issue all along.

Torrey Pines defeated St. Francis 31-14 to win the All-California single-school championship.

(This championship does not include the SCIRF teams as it's played between the winners of SoCal Youth Rugby and Rugby NorCal). This takes the championship to Southern California for the first time. De La Salle took 3rd over San Clemente in the 3rd-4th game.

A quick nod to the growing group of single-school HS teams helps the Northern California season heat up, but there's more going on, too.

Coming off a bit of a jamboree of games at Jesuit Sacramento, several of the school teams are pitted against each other looking toward an early-season single-school cup before the rest of the season is capped off.
