GRR: Air Force Academy Women

Can Air Force do it again this fall?

The Women’s Fall DI playoff is a hugely competitive one, and one wherein Air Force was somewhat dominant last year with an impressive showing by some unsung tight forwards, and an imposing center pairing.

Last year’s women’s DI fall final was a study in frustration.

It wasn’t that observers like this writer wanted any one specific team to win or lose; we just wanted to see a good game. We didn’t. Errors and fumbles were the feature of a game where UConn, making the fewer of the errors, prevailed.

The United States Military Academy women's team won the unofficial series between service academies thanks to a 29-7 defeat of Air Force Friday night under the lights at Anderson Rugby Complex.

Kate Roose got the scoring started in the second minute, with Carissa Pekny suceeding on the conversion to put Army up 7-0 early on.

Air Force plays at West Point in both men and women Friday night. Among the women, both Army and Air Force have beaten Navy, meaning the winner of this game wins the unofficial series among the three Service Academies. Among the men, Air Force has beaten Navy, and Army is yet to meet the Midshipmen, so if Air Force wins, the Zoomies take the series.

The records are all out the window as the women's rugby teams of Army and Air Force face off Friday evening at West Point.
