Test's 50th, USA's Close Call
The USA did not win their pool in the USA 7s as they tied South Africa 19-19.
The Eagles had the ball and a chance to win it at the end, but turned the ball over. Then at risk of losing the game, they defended well enough to finish out the game.
South Africa and the USA both finished 2-0-1, but South Africa had a better points difference.
Maka Unufe scored two tries for the USA and is quickly becoming one of the USA’s best players. He showed great pace and tackle-breaking ability in this game, as opposed to his more low-profile role of man-drawer and passer.
Meanwhile, Zack Test produced some big plays, and continues to do so in this his 50th Sevens World Series tournament.
For Test, it’s nice making a milestone and doing so on home turf, but it’s not something he thinks about much.
“I didn’t really know about it until [Friday morning],” Test said. “It’s a huge milestone but it’s not at the top of my priorities. We want to win the cup, and I’ll reflect on it afterwards, but right now it’s about the team and winning. We’re moving in the right direction; we want to be in the top eight always.”
