Oscar Treacy of Central Washington Wins 2025 Rudy Scholz Award

Oscar Treacy is the 2025 Rudy Scholz Award winner.

The winner of Rudy Scholz Award, given each year to the top men's college rugby player in the country, has been decided and it's Oscar Treacy from Central Washington University.

Treacy, a wing for the Wildcats, was selected by a vote from the Scholz Award Selection Committee among five finalists: Treacy, Bradley Crane (Life), Roanin Krieger (Navy), Duncan Krige (Lindenwood), and John Wilson (Saint Mary's).

"This was a very, very close vote," said Alex Goff, Goff Rugby Report editor and the person who oversees the selection process. "And that's a reflection on the quality of candidates. All of the finalists, as well as the nominees, are outstanding players and I'd like to congratulate them all."

Treacy's season was highlighted by clutch tries and several game-winning plays in a year where Central Washington won several games by close margins. His elusive running, ability to win ball in the air, and his use of his teammates, setting them up for tries, was why Treacy was selected as a finalist.

He won the award because he was the number one player opponents planned for when he played for Central Washington.

As many readers know, CWU has removed financial support from their rugby program and as of now is no longer a varsity program. But the legacy of the players and coaches who were part of that program will never fade thanks to Treacy's award.

"The Central Washington situation is not why Oscar won this award," added Goff, "but it does end up being a lasting reminder of what the players accomplished at Central Washington."
