West Coast Collegiate 7s Series Back For This Fall

The West Coast Collegiate 7s series is back for this fall with events at Cal Poly and Treasure Island.

A group of at least 20 men's college teams is expected at Cal Poly on October 8, with Cal sending two teams (as is their habit), plus hosts Cal Poly, Fresno State, CSULB, San Diego State, Stanford, Sacramento State, UCLA, UC Santa Cruz, Southern California, Santa Clara, UC Santa Barbara, Claremont Colleges, and Saint Mary's all on the list.

There could well be more—several of these teams are expected to field 2nd sides in the Cal Poly tournament, but there is also a space or two available FYI. This tournament is a good warmup for the Big Dance on Treasure Island.

UCLA is also hosting a tournament on October 1, with Long Beach State, USC, UC Santa Cruz, Claremont Colleges, and UCSB expected to attend.

The West Coast Collegiate 7s on Treasure Island in San Francisco will include defending champs Cal and several of the California-based teams listed above. From outside of the Golden State we will see Arizona, Utah, Grand Canyon, and Western Washington. That is slated for two days, October 22 and October 23.

While rugby East of the Mississippi is deep into 15s, the left coast is working on their 7s and the West Coast Collegiate 7s is central to this effort. (Interestingly, the NCRC in the Pacific Northwest starts ats 15s season September 24—WWU will do both during the fall.)

There is also the PAC 7s, scheduled for Stanford University on November 12-13.

There remains a little bit of room in the West Coast 7s and if you want to get your team involved email here: wc.college7srugby@gmail.com.
