For Katy, bating one of the leading teams in the state by 40 and shutting them out certainly was something of a head-turner. Katy Head Coach Ryan Marshall, who wasn't actually at the game, but studied game film and of course prepared the Barbarians for the match, said he knew Pius had suffered some injuries, but even so the result said something good about Katy.

The Katy backs are looking very solid, with Josh Schnell leading the way but the talent consistent and athletic. Inside center Caleb Ray has ben showing some good decision-making, but all of the good stuff from the backs depends on work from the forwards. Simon Cormack has had a breakout season, Thomas Waghorne has been outstanding at prop, and lock Tom Sanders has been doing all the dirty work.

All of that has combined nicely.

"We are improving every week," said Marshall. "We've got some kids who are experienced. They have solid heads on their shoulders and that maturity is helping."

St. Thomas met up with Lamar at Fun Football Stadium and came away with a 48-17 victory. Despite the rain. STH stormed out to a 26-7 halftime lead in a very physical, edgy match. Just before halftime referee Mitch Damm yellow-carded a St. Thomas player for repeated offside infringements, and Lamar took the wind for the 2nd half.

In spite of playing shorthanded, St. Thomas ramped up the aggression put in two tries. Eli Young scored three tries for St. Thomas, Riley Bishop touched down twice and kicked four conversions for 18 points, and Sam Yeboah, who continues to play very well, also scored two. Griffin Maat also had a strong game and scored a try.

Westlake improved to 5-0 with an 80-0 shutout of Jesuit Dallas in a result that should have some take notice. Jesuit was bypassed by the Quins Colts, as they moved to 3-3 with a 72-0 shutout of Four Points.

Lake Travis and Allen met up with both teams unbeaten, and Lake Travis won 40-10 to go to 5-0, tied with Westlake in the Central. Allen still leads the North with a 4-1-1 record.

The league standings are below. The winners from each division goes into the playoffs, plus the best teams from the non-winners. Several are still in the hunt.
