Penn State Berks Edges Gettysburg in Key Small College Matchup

Penn State Berks is now 5-0 in conference play.

Penn State Berks pulled off a key 20-12 victory over Gettysburg over the weekend to take sole possession of 1st place in the Small College Keystone Conference.

Led by the try-scoring acumen of Nate Chin, Josue Garcia, and Will Jackson, Berks was able to contain Gettysburg's very dangerous Ben Murphy, who is the conference try leader.

"It was a hard-fought battle for both teams," said Garcia.

The speed and fitness of the team, added Evan Krapohl, has been key. And it showed.

The game was very close throughout and Berks led 13-12 late when Dylan Brubaker took the ball on a pick-and-go from a ruck inside his own half. The big man kept going and outpaced everyone to score.

That try, with the conversion, sealed the game.

At 5-0, Berks leads Gettysburg which sits at 4-1.

Susquehanna and Widener look to be the top small college teams in the Mid-Atlantic's hybrid leagues. But in the small-college-only divisions, Berks leads the Keystone, while 5-0 Catholic (idle this week), leads the Potomac.

Berks takes on Widener this coming weekend.

"We're just going to try the same game plan ... and hopefully we come with something to play [with] against Widener and see what we can do," said Garcia.
