Well, what a weekend coming up.
Army vs Navy is a massive game every year, but, like last year, this is also potentially a conference championship decider. Remember that last year Army beat Navy 24-17. This year's game promises to be equally close. Army has been getting an excellent fall from captain Lucas Pattinson at No.8 and scrumhalf Tiaan Mosconi was a good player before, but has been even better this year.
Army is coming off a 53-8 win over Air Force where Head Coach Matt Sherman saw some players we don't hear about so much making some big players. Sherman has been pretty happy with his side but expects them to be more clinical and to convert a little better on scoring chances.
Rivals Navy beat Kutztown 46-16 with No. 8 Ben Haugh leading a superb back row.
“We are extremely excited for Saturday," said Head Coach Gavin Hickie. "While we know we have not achieved anything yet this season, we have progressed each week, building depth and trying out different combinations. We are exactly where we want to be."
Center (and flyhalf last week) Lewis Gray leads the Rugby East with 89 points off seven tries, 21 conversions, and four penalty goals. Haugh leads the conference with nine tries.
Also we've got some earlier insight on what could happen in the Rugby East>> and some specifics on St. Bonaventure's chance to maybe joining Army and Navy atop the conference>>
The Big 10 semifinals see Notre Dame take on Indiana and Illinois face Ohio State.
The Liberty D1 final, AIC vs Brown, will be a big tossup game, and the Liberty DIAA semifinals are on as well.
That not enough for you? What about the opening weekend of the Mid-South Conference? A Davenport side that has started very nicely this fall but are perfectly cognizant of the fact that they haven't beaten Life in 20 meetings. But last they met in the fall Life won by a single point.
Life is coming off a 24-14 win over BYU. The Running Eagles have been working their way slowly into launching their Mid-South 1st 15; their set piece is solid but they haven't yet, broken open the way they can.
