In a clash of undefeated teams, Mira Costa defeated St. John Bosco 45-24 to clinch a playoff spot in Southern California's Varsity White division and imporve to 6-0 in league play.

St. John Bosco slips to 4-1 and remains in 2nd place in the Varsity White Los Angeles conference.

Mira Costa exacted some revenge for a 44-17 division semifinal loss in 2015 with this victory. Despite having a far lighter pack, Mira Costa battled well up front and got enough ball to score with.

The Mustangs got possession early and were all kinds of difficulty for Bosco when they had the ball in hand. The Costa rucking was quick and to the point and recycled possession quickly. Within the first three minutes Mira Costa had driven the ball down inside the Braves' five meter line. There Boscowas called for a penalty and scrumhalf Harrison Dulgariantapped quickly and dove over for the first try of the night. Flanker David Arredondo converted to give an early 7-0 lead for Costa.

The Mustangs received the restart and flanker Gunnar Kissman got Mira Costa going. Costa again used phase after phase to recycle the ball and that eventually set up No. 8 Jonah Tavai scampering for a try from 26 meters out. Tavai converted his own try for a 14-0 lead. Kissman again fielded the restart and soon thereafter senior captain and inside center Justus Tavai made a nifty move and then bulled his way in for a score and a 19-0 lead.

Bosco finally got their offense in gear as both sides traded possessions. But they couldn't quite get points and instead Mira Costa wing Justin Goring pounce on a loose ball and galloped forward. He was tackled but offloaded to Jonah Tavai who finished the final 28 meters. Tavai converted to make it 26-0.

Bosco scored late in the first half to make ti 24-5.

The second half was more of the same. Kissman found the tryline and Jonah Tavai converted. The Braves continued to play hard and would not go away, and scored their second try. But Mira Costa centr Makai Elep picked up a loose ball and exploded untouched for 48 meters.

The Mustangs' scoring ended with a try as sophomore wing Kaden Loversky took a ball from about 27 meters out and while being tackled offloaded to Justus Tavai who scored. Bosco scored two tries late in the game to finish off the scoring 45-24.

The victory, along with next week's forfeit win, will make Mira Costa 6-0 in league play and 8-0 overall.
