Middlebury Most Sportsmanlike in Conference

The Middlebury College men's rugby team was voted on by teams of the ECRC conference as the more sportsmanlike this season.

The ECRC asks teams to rank their opponents on their sportsmanship in their game reports. Those assessments (expressed as a number) are then tabulted. That number is then adjusted downward based on yellow cards and red cards received during the league season. A yellow card takes off five points, and a red card takes off ten.

Middlebury received 71 points and one yellow card for a total of 66, just one point ahead of Boston College, which had received the sportsmanship award the last two years.

UConn was a cose third (and actually received more points in the match reports, but fell to third thanks to two yellow cards against none for BC).

The rest of the rankings were: 4. Fairfield, 5. AIC, 6. Albany, 7. Northeaster, 8. UMass, and a rather ditant 9th, NEC.

The award for Middlebury was especially notable because the team has operated without a solid coaching staff for some time, and has depended on player leadership.

The team, by the way, is still looking for a coach
