Latest from All American Tour

The Men's Collegiate All Americans are ensconced in Toowoomba, Australia, and training hard.

The team will face Darling Downs on August 6, followed by the Brothers club August 10, and the finale against the Queensland Premier Barbarians on August 14 (all dates Australian).

Queensland has already named their squad for the 14th.

“We’ve definitely put together a strong squad," said Head Coach Nick Fogarty on the Queensland Reds website. "When we sat down to pick the team, the problem was we had so many quality players to chose from. It was a matter of picking players who were available and looking at putting together combinations that could deliver in a one off match.”

This is the Queensland Premier Rugby Barbarians squad:

1. Garrath Ryan - Norths; 2. Francois Postal - Brothers; 3. Trent Anderson - GPS; 4. Matt Bennett - Souths; 5. Sam Fattal - Bond University; 6. Jayden Rodwell - Norths; 7. Max Allen - Easts; 8. Michael Richards - GPS; 9. Nick Chapman - Norths; 10.  Teti Tela - Souths; 11.  Gus Qasavakatini - Bond University; 12.  Stevie Hunt - GPS; 13.  Dan Faumuina - Wests; 14.  Conrad Quick - Sunnybank; 15.  Waylen Skipps - Bond University; Reserves: 16.  Sam Clifton - Bond University; 17.  Cody Blackhurst - Wests; 18.  Tererina McLean - Sunnybank; 19.  Pat Morrey - University of Queensland; 20.  Conor Anderson - Norths; 21.  Billy Thompson - Easts; 22.  Ed Gibson - University of Queensland; 23. Jeremy Skelton - Brothers

Meanwhile, the players and coaches are getting settled in.

Vetekina Malafu posted on social media how excited he was to be touring with his roommate, Wes Hartmann (both from Kutztown). Hartmann has let fans know what he's up to with his blogging for USA Rugby:

"Once through customs, the team was greeted warmly by Bobby, our main correspondent from the tour's main sponsor, WellDog. We then headed to the bus where we met the team's driver for the rest of the tour, Liam. A typical Australian, Liam always has a smile, a positive attitude, and is full of local knowledge and fun facts. We then picked up some additional players flying in domestically and were finally on our way to Toowoomba, where we would be based for the first leg of the tour."

Nick Boyer (Cal) was also blogging for USA Rugby, and said on Day Two:

"Following training, we partook in a presentation put on by Study and Play USA for the Downlands schoolboys, highlighting the opportunities rugby and academics can provide for a top-notch education in the US. With accounts by our coaches and foreign based players illustrating the process and potential benefits, we hopefully left an indelible impression on these young men. Following the presentation, we were treated to a delicious BBQ by our hosts, enhanced by a bit of live music from some of the boys who found their way to a drum set."

The players are pretty excited. Chad Gough (Utah) posted a photo of the Toowoomba Grammar School rugby field, with certainly a bit of envy for how nice it it.

"Love this place!" he wrote.

Alex Maughan (Life) was thinking about the symbol on his jersey: "It's an amazing honor to represent the United States in the sport I love," he said.

Representing the country is what much of this is about. Maughan played for the USA at age-grade level, and over half the team has done so. A couple have even earned senior USA caps - not unique for the All Americans but noteworthy.

Oh, and here is a picture of the coaches looking snappy in their All American ties.
