Iona's 55-0 shutout of West Virginia Sunday puts the Gaels in a somewhat surprising 2nd place in the always-tough Rugby East.

Evan Staikos and Mike Marino scored two tries apiece for Iona while Lavar James, Andy Cacinovic, Mike Marro, and Mike Scarcella all scored one. Greg Amaty converted five. The win puts Iona at 3-1 with 15 points in the standaings, and their impressive scorelines, led by a solid defense, have the Gaels in 2nd thanks to a better lpoints difference than Penn State.

"We are still a work in progress," warned Iona Head Coach Bruce McLane. And in addition, the tougher part of the season comes now. Kutztown, Army, and Penn State remain on the schedule.

Kutztown won this week against St. Bonaventure, while Army won the big game over Penn State.
