Gamebreakers - HS Boys This Week

Matt Mairowtz of Weston and Florida.

With five Regional Cup Tournament all-star events this past weekend, there were plenty of impressive performances to make note of.

Kelly Fernandi, Prince William

The Virginia all-star flanker/lock was a big part of his team's victory in Pittsburgh, getting to just about every ruck, and generally making a nuisance of himself to opposing defenses.

Jack Freiheit and Luke Beinstock, Greenwich

The two big try-scorers for Greenwich have done something many players have trouble doing - maintain the hype. Both were expected to be important cogs for Greenwich, and both exceeded expectations. They continued this on through the select-side season, helping a mostly Greenwich team win the Northeast RCT.

Mat Mairowitz, Weston

The Weston flyhalf was outstanding for Florida, helping his team to the final of the Mid-Atlantic Challenge Cup in Pittsburgh. While Florida was edged 19-17 in the final, Mairowitz was named tournament MVP, and deservdely so.

Kalisi Moli, Herriman

The Utah prop/No. 8 was the emotional leader and also led by his play in taking Utah to the championship of the Rocky Mountain Challenge.

Evan Clark, Santa Monica

The senior scrumhalf helped spark Southern California's comeback to win the Southwest RCT. SoCal lost to NorCal on Day One, but in the double round-robin, the Griffins' Sunday performance put them on top.

Eddie Smith, Roswell

The prop forward led Georgia from the front to claim the South RCT in what was something of an upset.

Dmontae Noble, Warrenton

Goff Rugby Report's Player of the Week, Noble was the attacking spark that led Virginia to their RCT championship in Pittsburgh.

Will Vakalahi and Jack White, Penn HS

White was the Mid-Atlantic RCT JV MVP, but Vakalahi could well have been also. Indiana dominated, in large part thanks to their formidable back row.

Bailey Wilson, United

The Utah JV lock was a force in the set piece and around the field for a Utah JV team that was untouchable - no points conceded - in the Rocky Mountain Challenge.
