DIAA Rugby

In this week's games in DIAA, the Lonestar Conference is slated to kick off, and who knows there—Texas State vs Sam Houston State could be an early showcase of top teams.

Meanwhile the SCRC clash between Clemson and Alabama could be a big one.

One game not played this week is Georgia at South Carolina, which was played a week earlier. Georgia won that 17-15.

But we thought they were worth talking about anyway. It was Georgia's first-ever win over USC. Head Coach Cameron DiLoreto actually though his team didn't play that well.

"Our lineout selection and execution was poor," said DiLoreto, and they really struggled to win their lineout. "Our accuracy in attacking areas needs to improve massively if we want to beat teams we're capable of beating. Overall, though, we're looking pretty solid."

Georgia's numbers are very good, and as a result they have high expectations. Should make the SCRC very interesting this year. Arkansas takes on Mizzou in a Heart of America conference that is very up in the air.

NCR DI

The Liberty dominates this group but we also see the Chesapeake light up, where Mount St. Mary's vs Virginia Tech could be a head-turner. Mary Washington is looking strong and should take care of NC State. Maryland at Queens looks to be a Queens win ... on paper.

Were keeping an eye on Stony Brook as a rankings possibility, and Northeastern could be really good. We go into more detail about Nazareth here>>

Meanwhile, Notre Dame celebrates 60 years with a game against Adrian and then against Purdue. The Boilermakers are an up-and-comer in the Big Ten, and UND players some crossover games in Big Ten, although they remains in NCR. Notre Dame looks very strong,w tih a roster of over 50 and already a couple of nice wins on their record.

"We've learned a lot of lessons," said Head Coach Justin Hickey. "And we have a lot of improving to do. We are still looking for an identity."

No. 8 Christian Opperman, who was in the Blue Bulls Academy in South Africa, has been quite special so far, and flanker Jack Wilson (Gamebreaker) is excellent on defense. Keep an eye out for tighthead Chase Pierce, who has blossomed as he has converted to the front row.

CRAA DIA

Navy looked very good against Air Force but Head Coach Gavin Hickie said his team still has a long way to go. Jake Beitia has played well so far and their halfback combination of flyhalf Lewis Gray and scrumhalf Sean McLaney are something to see. Captain Colin Brennan and center Frank Bell bring the leadership.

"We'll need that against St. Bonaventure," said Hickie. "Tui Osborne has done a really good job with them."

So he has, so much so that he was named St. Boanventure's Director of Rugby this week.

We at GRR will be at Notre Dame but we'll also be at Ohio State at Indiana. While Ohio State has to rebound from a loss to Tennessee as a warmup, Indiana has been winning despite having a shakeup in their coaching and leadership. Can IU keep it together?

We're really, really interested in Notre Dame College at Davenport. This is a game where Davenport can lay down a bit of a rankings marker, but NDC has been challenging themselves and that usually pays off at some point.

9/18 Ohio State 31-33 Indiana Big Ten
9/18 Colorado State Ccld New Mexico RMC
