Gonzaga survived a stirring comeback by Herriman to book a place in the Boys HS National Championships single-school final.

The DC team dominated early and led at one point 39-15. But Herriman responded with some brilliant quick play, the Utah team started scoring tries, and scored three late tries to make it 39-34. Herriman had the ball with time left but lost possession and Gonzaga kicked to win it. Herriman will rue missing four of their six conversions. Both teams played with a lot of power, but it was their speed that got the tries.

Gonzaga will meet Jesuit in the final for the third straight year. Jesuit, after escaping a quarterfinal game where their Head Coach John Shorey said they were "very, very lucky," Jesuit pumeled Penn 38-15. Jesuit scored right out of the blocks, and worked so quickly Penn kept giving up penalties. The Jesuit maul worked to perfection and they mauled over a couple of scores that put it away early.

Penn kept working and scored a couple late, but it was too late.

Penn plays Herriman for 3rd on Saturday.

In the consolation bracket, Xavier survived a tough Brownsburg team 15-12. Both teams had lost Thursday evening in cruel overtime fashion. Greenwich handles St. Thomas Aquinas 40-22. So Greenwich plays local rivals Xavier for 5th in a rematch of a game from a few weeks ago that went to Xavier 37-36. Brownsburg, which lost on post-OT penalty kicks to Jesuit, somehow finds itself playing for 7th against Thomas Aquinas.

In the Multi-School club bracket, Granite Bay looked all sorts of awesome against United 41-14. Royal Irish pulled away from a determined West Shore United 30-12. So Royal Irish makes it to their fourth-straight national championship, and Granite Bay plays in their first.

United faces West Shore for third. In the consolation bracket, Orlando won a wild one 38-33 over South Doyle, and the KC Jr. Blues put away Phoenix Alpharetta 29-6.

So the Blues play Orlando for 5th, and South Doyle plays Phoenix for 7th.

In the Tier II, Union out of New Jersey defeated Fishers 29-10 to make the final. They will face Charlotte Catholic, which has been deadly this week and slammed a very good Notre Dame De La Salette 39-14. La Salette plays Fishers for 3rd.

In the consolation games, Sierra Foothills, close losers to La Salette on Thursday, beat Brother Rice, and North Bay, close losers to Union on Thursday, beat the Charlotte Tigers.

So it's a 5th/6th game replicating the Northern California 5th/6th game between North Bay and Sierra Foothills. North Bay won the last time. Brother Rice plays Charlotte Tigers for 7th.
