All-Time American List: Nancy Fitz

As usual, all smiles. Nancy Fitz during a 2017 WRWC kickoff event. Colleen McCloskey photo.

A physically imposing and unflinching second row, Nancy Fitz was capped 21 times by the USA and captained the Eagles as well.

Hard, powerful, and with a deep understanding of the game, Fitz was the foundation upon which the DC Furies team was built in the 1990s and 2000s. As seems to be the rule when you're talking about mean, physical locks, she was (and is) enormously nice off the field, and her intelligence has translated to a successful career as a scientist and as a coach.

Fitz played in two Rugby World Cups, and dominated the second row position in the United States in the late 1990s and 2000s. But she was also fit, mobile, and athletic enough to be part of a very successful group of 7s teams, including Atlantis and the USA.
