Chris Osentowski was a throwback, or more accurately, the end of an era.

As rugby became more and more professional, Osentowski was an avowed amateur. He worked extremely hard to be a great prop, and was the best tighthead in the United States for some period, but he did all of that while holding down a demanding career. 

A longtime servant of the Belmont Shore Rugby Club, Osentowski was repeatedly touted as a potential Eagle. Despite his relatively short stature (he was under six feet), he repeatedly dominated scrums in the Super League, and finally broke in during the 2004 season. He quickly showed that his reputation was deserved. His performance in the 2007 Rugby World Cup prompted several overtures from professional teams, but Osentowski has a job and other things to worry about and passed.

Regardless, he was a superb prop forward who got there but working enormously hard, and taking pride in his craft.
