7 Stops En Route to 7s Championship

With the addition of Lindenwood’s tournament, there are now seven regional qualifiers for the Women’s College 7s National Championship, which will occur May 22-24.

Two of the qualifiers have already taken place, and Cal won both of them. UC Davis and Central Washington were runners-up, respectively, and will presumably receive at-large bids to the championship (details of which have not been released).

Midwest teams will have two venues from which to choose: Notre Dame College hosts an event in Cleveland on April 11; and Lindenwood hosts the other on May 2 in St. Charles, Mo.

East Coast teams will have their first opportunity to qualify on April 4, when NOVA hosts its annual Collegiate 7s tournament in Manassas, Va., while the Ivy League schools will converge on Princeton, N.J., on April 18 for the conference’s qualifier.

At the end of the month (April 25-26), southern teams will have the opportunity to qualify through the Little Rock 7s in Arkansas (also home to the American Pro Rugby Training Center).

The winner of each qualifier receives an automatic bid to the national championship, and with only seven tournaments on the lineup, one presumes the runners-up will be first in line for at-large bids.
