Utah, WWU Win 7s Tourneys

The University of Utah won the Boise State 7s, winning the Round Robin Cup Round, and thus not having to play their own 2nd team.

That was a good thing since Utah's ends ended up finishing as Runners Up. Boise State took third.

"This is all part of our development for the Battle in the Bay and the PAC 7s," said Utah Head Coach Mark Drown, who has seen his roster balloon from under 30 to more than 60 since last spring. "I was really pleased with the results.

Captain Taylor Thomas, playing in his home town of Boise, Idaho, was brilliant for Utah and Jacob Morrison led the effort among the forwards.

Meanwhile, also this weekend, Oregon State University hosted their 7s tournament, and made the final.

OSU just got into the championship match after holding off Washington. OSU led 19-0 at halftime in the semis, but the Huskies came storming back to make it 19-17. That, however, is how it ended. In the final, the Beavers faced Western Washington, who had played very well all day. WWU had shut out Oregon in the semis (and Oregon went on to beat Washington for 3rd), and then put on an impressive showing in beating OSU 31-5.

Washington won Pool A with a 3-0 record, Oregon was 2-1, OSU 2 1-2, and Orange 0-3.
In Pool B, WWU went 3-0, OSU 2-1, Oregon 2 1-2, and Pacific 0-3.

Next up in the Northwest 7s series will be the Palouse 7s at Washington State University. Also that weekend will be the West Coast 7s in San Luis Obispo.
