The Virginia Military Institute men’s rugby program is solid at #3 in the nation and kept that ranking thanks to victories over Virginia Commonwealth and Old Dominion to win the Cardinals Conference title.
VMI and ODU were, in fact, slated to face each other during the regular season, but the game was fined out. VMI Head Coach Wayne Howe said that didn’t both him much.
The fall, 2015 season started with Wisconsin-Whitewater Head Coach Matt Pederson saying his team was in the toughest conference in men’s DII college rugby, and that was before Northern Iowa and Lindenwood-Belleville had played their first games in the WIIL.
Back in August Goff Rugby Report stopped by the first day of practice for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute rugby team; it was, in fact, not even a practice, but rather a way to get new payers acquainted with the game.

Despite being put in a very tough position in the Northern Lights playoffs, Winona State Coach Jeff Noe is philosophical about his teams 64-0 loss to Minnesota-Duluth in the final.
The playoffs in the conference were supposed to provide a two-game weekend for all four teams involved. Duluth was supposed to play MUS-Mankato, while Winona took on the very tough North Dakota State.
