BOULDER, Colo. – The USA Rugby Men’s Division II College National Championship is fast approaching as teams have begun to qualify for the Nov. 22-23 Regional Playoffs.
York College secured the top spot in the MARC Tier II Men’s DII College league with a 60-10 defeat of Bloomsburg.
The Mean ’n’ Green had already edged East Stroudsburg, their closest competition, 25-24 on Oct. 25. The MARC takes three teams from Tier I and one team from its Tier II into the playoffs, so York’s one-point victory over ESU was a cruel blow to East Stroudsburg.
UMass Lowell slammed Merrimack College Friday night to keep their Rugby Northeast championship hopes alive.
The University of Vermont took control of the New England DII conference with two straight victories over Rhode Island these past two weeks.
With a 42-28 defeat of Hobart Saturday, Buffalo State sits 4-1 and leads the Upstate New York Men’s DII Conference, West Division.
The Bengals can still be caught, but to do that, Niagara will have to beat 3-4 Geneseo this coming weekend, and then beat Buffalo State the week after that.
