Actual rugby games in America may be few and far between but already Dakota Southworth made his presence known.
Iowa Central Community College’s metronomically active flanker was the player of the game in last week’s outing against Iowa State, and received kudos from both coaches.
“Their #7 just has an incredible work rate,” enthused Iowa Sate Head Coach Anthony Frein.
In an opener of what promises to be a hugely disrupted collegiate rugby season, Iowa Central Community College defeated Iowa State 23-14 Saturday.
The game was touted as a scrimmage as both programs were just trying to get players on the field. Still it was a real rugby game with tackles and scrums and everything.
There will always be freshmen to watch at Iowa Central Community College, because the school is a two-year institution, but we're giving you the first heads up on a powerful forward from Penn HS who is really one to watch.
"Alex Kennach is the real deal," said his high school coach, Bart Bottorff.
Brent Nelson started the Iowa Central Community College men's rugby program and took it to a NSCRO national title, then 3rd in D2, and then a DIAA national fall title in 2019.
