Former USA 7s star Zack Test has been added to the USA Women's 7s program coaching staff as an assistant coach.

A selection panel including Head Coach Emilie Bydwell, United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) Coaching Director Chris Clements, and International Athlete Representative Kelly Griffin administered a process of reviewing applications, and conducting interviews with finalists to evaluate them across several categories.

Test has been serving in an interim role since the opening rounds of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Dubai and excelled throughout the interview process. Through this appointment, Test will be in place through the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022 in Cape Town and the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. As a storied legend in USA sevens history, Test brings over 300 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series matches of experience to the coaching role at a crucial time for the Women’s Sevens program.

“I am extremely honored to be a part of the program once again and truly grateful for the opportunity,” said Test, “ It has been a goal of mine to return to the program and continue building the legacy. As I told the group when I received the news, it is the best job in the world and the people in the program are the reason behind it.”

Test ranks among the top five in nearly every statistical category for the USA Men’s Sevens, with 307 total matches, 143 tries and 721 points scored. In 2016, Test was named to the Team USA rugby sevens roster at the Olympic games in Rio De Janeiro, he similarly represented the United States in fifteens during the 2015 Rugby World Cup, bringing fundamental experience and understanding for pinnacle rugby competition ahead of Paris 2024. Following a nine-year career with the USA Eagles across both sevens and fifteens, Test has since parlayed his experience into the coaching game, most recently with the San Diego Legion of Major League Rugby.

“We are thrilled to announce Zack’s appointment as the USA Women’s Sevens Assistant Coach," said Bydwell. "His international experience in the game of sevens speaks for itself, but what stood out to me is his ability to translate that experience and provide our players with extremely valuable insight and support.

"He brings a unique understanding of how to manipulate defenses along with the specific actions and behaviors that we need to develop in our players so that they can be dynamic and adaptive attacking threats. Further, his expertise in the aerial side of the game will enable us to continue to evolve our kick off tactics and support our players to continue to be dominant in this area.”
