Women DI College Playoffs Set for Coming Weekend

The Women's D1 playoff bracket is filled out now after this past weekend.

The eight teams playing off targeting the championship game at the CRAA 15s Finals Weekend April 30 at Aveva Stadium in Houston, Texas.

Details Confirmed on CRAA 15s Finals Weekend

Already we had the Eastern Bracket set with Virginia, Central Florida, Virginia Tech, and North Carolina set for Friday's quarterfinals and Saturday's semis.

Tour-Inspired UVA Leading Way in East

This past weekend Grand Canyon defeated UCLA in emphatic fashion 31-3 to fill out the Western Bracket. GCU rolled through their Pacific Desert Conference season, with clear wins of Arizona, UCSD, and UC Santa Barbara. They were tested bby UCLA in the regular season, winning 17-5, a game that Head Coach Lindsey Mahoney said finally tested her squad. They responded well and the final against UCLA showed that.

Stanford is back in the national arena after cruising through the Pacific Mountain. Their toughest game was actually their opener against UC Davis, a game they won 24-22. No other team came close. Stanford needed to beat Fresno State April 2 to clinch their spot and did so 61-34 to eliminate UC Davis.

Washington got through Oregon, Oregon State, Washington State, and Western Washington to earn that spot.

Waiting for all of these is BYU. Led by the play of Sorensen Nominee Lewanda Aspinall at No. 8, lock/flanker Annaliese Curtism and Kathryn Stowers at either center or scrumhalf, the Cougars have dominated. BYU has scored over 80 multiple times and the only teams they have lost to are D1 Elite teams Life and Lindenwood. They faced another D1 Elite team, Central Washington, twice, and won those two games 20-17 and 18-14. Those were valuable games, especially the last one, which was played two weeks ago. Every other game BYU was 9-0 with an average score of 84-2.

So this week in the East:

Virginia plays UNC and Central Florida plays Virginia Tech on Day One at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.

The winners play a day later for a place in the final.

in the West:

GCU takes on Stanford at Stanford's Steuber Rugby Stadium, while BYU takes on Washington. The winners play on Saturday, Day Two, for a place in the final.
